“I often use recycled materials. The colours and shapes add to the composition. So much can be understood from what we leave behind.”
In Marcus’ sculpture, discarded objects are assembled and presented in new and unexpected ways. We can only guess at their previous life in his intriguing and beautifully made pieces, their rich patina hinting at a previous history.
Marcus’ formal qualifications are impressive but he believes that qualifications associated with life’s experiences are just as important. It is this very appreciation of life’s experience and his sensitivity to his surrounds that richly informs Marcus’ sculptural work – often through the use of previously loved ‘junk’, aka waste.
