Born 1987, Michael Dyson is a surrealist and abstract painter based in Adelaide. His paintings are inspired by many cultural influences including 1960’s psychedelic art, indigenous Australian art, 1990’s computer games, 20th century cartoons as well as a whole host of artists, although these influences may not immediately appear obvious. Many of his paintings reflect the human brain’s ability to derive faces out of certain geometrical relationships and therefore faces are a common feature. His main medium is acrylic paint but he also uses oil paint and aerosol quite extensively. His aim is to produce artwork that is as emotive and imaginative as possible. He uses bright colours and thin sharp outlines to emphasise the forms and characters in his paintings. He aims to become a full time painter within the next two years.
