Stephen delights in challenging the status quo on many levels: unorthodox usage of media and technique; the revamping of his previously exhibited works; contemporary but quirky concepts for 'the Art message'; even an irreverent disdain for the 'over-hyped' Art market. This idiosyncratic combination spread over 4 prolific decades has served to either attract or repel clients, promoters, critics and fellow artists. As they say: "Let the chips fall where they may!" He almost never duplicates his creations, preferring the challenges and risks of unknown territory.
Stephen has been credited as being "the Father of Australian Studio Hot-Glass", having introduced it to Australia's Craft scene on his return from the U.S.A. in 1970.
