ARTIST Eugene Casey

My first interest in art was stirred at a young age when I was a student at primary school in the small town of Gladstone in South Australia's mid-north. It was during this time that I first showed my work at the local High School's annual art exhibition.

Whilst at secondary school, I continued the interest by always choosing subjects that enhanced my ability and interest in visual art. After leaving school my attention turned to graphic artand this lasted for several years.

In 1990, I undertook a night course in graphic art and design and found this was not for me. A few months later I signed up for a life drawing course and it was this that set me back on course to persue fine art.

After a few years of working at different jobs and painting in my spare time, I decided to study full time for a year at the Adelaide Central School of Art in 1995. I found this time invaluable as the course gave me a good grounding in the disciplines of drawing and painting and the opportunity to spend time and share ideas with other aspiring and established artists within a stimulating artistic environment.

After gaining a certificate in Visual Art Practice, I returned to Port Pirie to consolidate what I had learnt and began a period of experimentation. Many different styles and techniques of painting were used during this time. The result is a body of work that has varied from semi-traditional to abstract to other images of a conceptual or surrealistic nature.

I am currently living in the Adelaide Hills, which I enjoy, due to the variety of scenery available to me, which I endeavour to capture in my works.
