ARTIST Mare Puksand:

I can't remember a time when I haven't indulged in a variety of art and crafts. I had no problems combining painting with either family commitments or with my career as a Primary School teacher. I started teaching in my early twenties and retired about five years ago, I began exhibiting in 1987 and took part in group exhibitions, gallery exhibitions and had many solo exhibitions as well. I was a member of Studio Potters for many years. There's something really relaxing about spinning mud!

I call my paintings "Textured Inks". I'll use anything that comes to hand to achieve the result I'm looking for- no excuses necessary!

I prefer painting indoors. When I've attempted to paint outdoors I've found that sooner or later, every bug and ant would make a beeline for my toes. Instead I find that photogrpahy offers more advantages. A photo instantly reminds me of the initial interest in a subject. A photo depicts Australia's beautiful landscapes, whether the Red Centre of the Flinders Ranges or the hills and valleys nearer to home. These landscapes remain my favourite source for capturing the beauty of this ancient land.
