And she planted a tree

The hand references Picasso and it is pointing towards a woman planting a tree - an image from the Bayeux Tapestry, an embroidery depicting events prior to and the Norman Invasion of England in the 11th Century. The ornate patterned surface - one of the more decorative works in the series - has the gun located almost in the centre of the work, heightening the sense of what may lie below appearances. Historical images and 9/11 link the past with the present across cultures and time.
