 Having spent 27 years on the Yorkshire moors where often the light was subdued and the sky overcast, I arrived in Australia and was immediately struck by the brilliant light and intense blue skies and seas.

It is a land full of brightness and sharp contrasts. There is a freshness in the air, there is warmth, there is a parade of colour and activity on the seas from yachts, windsurfers to the beauty of bird forms.

The outback colours vibrate and glow in the morning and evening light, with bright reds, oranges and purples contrasting with the deep blue sky. In springtime the outback comes alive, bursting with a brilliant carpet of floral colour.

Australia is a land I truly love and I am passionate about capturing its bright fresh spirit in my seascapes and outback paintings.

Valerie has exhibited widely in South Australia and Interstate and her work is represented in many government and corporate collections.
