Inspired by the vibrant colours of the French Impressionists', Rod Cowin has developed a unique technique. He uses Australian gum bark as his medium, the computer screen as his canvas and the mouse as his brushes to create artworks that capture Australia's vibrant colours.
The beauty of the of the Australian gum tree's trunks and bark fascinates him. He loves the Blue Gum, which reveals the azure blue of the Australian sky along with the reds, ochres and yellows that perfectly depict the colours traditionally associated with the Australian landscape.
He photographs them using a macro lens, thereby capturing their stunning textures and subtle nuances of colour and, using selected parts of these photos, translates their beauty into his digital art. Rod lives on beautiful Kangaroo Island and devotes himself to his love of photography and digital art.
